For many years America has taken extreme actions to further economic growth. Mining in Alaska has been a prominent topic in politics for the past 12 years. Some Americans are for and some are against. The benefit of opening the mine would be economic growth not just for Alaska but for America. Another benefit of the mine would be opening up Alaska for more potential like oil mining. The mine would also supply America with an abundance of gold, copper, and molybdenum. Yes, there are repercussions to mining, but they are no worse than burning fossil fuels or operating a motor vehicle. Who is to say if we will even be alive to see the consequences of opening the mine. We should be focused on the economy now so that America does not fall into another recession. With a growing demand we must have a growing and steady supply. Opening the mine would bring many benefits to Alaska like economic and community growth, resources and opportunities.
One of the primary reasons it would be good to open the mine is the abundance of metals in the mine. We have all been accustomed to living with electricity, AC and heating. The mine in Alaska has millions of dollars worth of copper, that we use every day in our homes. The Alaskan mine also has molybdenum, this element is used to protect our country. Molybdenum is used to make missiles and aircraft parts. The other main element the mine is encasing is gold. We all know how much we love gold. We use gold for jewelry, technology, dentistry and many other things. Would you be willing to give up electricity, technology, home defense, and future advancements because you don't want to mine in Alaska? Yes, mining does create pollution but so does factories, operating motor vehicles, burning fossil fuels, not recycling, the list goes on and on. No matter what we do there will always be pollution so why not benefit from it.
Another reason for opening the mine would be the economic growth it would bring to Alaska. Mining in Alaska would bring jobs to the area. More jobs means more housing for workers and more infrastructure. A mine his size would boost the economy of Alaska. The mine would also be a tourist attraction bringing in more money to Alaska. The mine would be one of the biggest in the United States. Opening up the mine would mean that America would have to mine in other countries, which is cheaper. One of the concerns with mining jobs is that it takes skills or an education for higher level position, but knowing this will motivate people to go to school and get the job because the opportunity is there. Opening the mine would benefit not just Alaska, but America as a whole.
Lastly, mining in Alaska will open the door for other industries like oil drilling. This is a huge benefit for America because we will not have to get our oil from Canada, Saudi Arabia or Venezuela. We could drill it in Alaska giving us the control of the prices. We also wouldn't have to export elements from Africa. Giving them the chance to mine the elements themselves creating economic growth for Africa. This all shows that opening the mine is a huge benefit.
Opening the mine would bring many benefits to Alaska and America. Mining does have many repercussions but it also has many rewards. Brining economic growth to Alaska, having the abundance of elements to continue or way of life, and opening up to new industries outweighs the bad that comes from the mine. America needs to live in the present and worry about the economy now, because who says that humans will even be here when the effects of the mine occur.
