When I thought of researching about Machu Picchu, I was interested in knowing about their culture. In this essay, I am going to talk about cultural tourism in Machu Picchu, the advantages and disadvantages it provides.
Cultural tourism is a type of tourism where travelers go to particular destinations to find out about its cultural and historical experiences. Many of these destinations provide tourists with interesting attractions, events, tours and historic sites. Through cultural tourism, travelers can gain new knowledge and deeper understanding of their host country.
There are three main types of activities for cultural tourism in Machu Picchu. The first type of activity is tours given by indigenous locals. Second type of activity is visits to historic sites. Third type of activities is participation in festivals.
An example of tours given by indigenous locals is the Santuario Historico de Machu Picchu tour. In this tour, the guide will bring the travelers to walk through the main streets of these amazing ruins. Also, everyone can walk through town squares and climb a set of gracefully-carved stone stairs.
Another example of visits to historic sites is Machu Picchu tour. In this tour, the guide will bring the travelers into the ruins. Because of the geographical location at the top of a mountain, some clouds may surround visitors, creating a feeling of being in a fairyland. The travelers can see the maze of granite houses, temples, cisterns and walls. Of course, the tour guide will lead travelers all the way and explain the relevant historical stories to them.
Cultural tourism has a number of advantages. There are four main areas of advantages of cultural tourism in Machu Picchu. The first advantage is that there can be lots of jobs created for tourism. Second advantage is the improvement of life quality for locals due to better infrastructure. Third benefit is the protection of local culture. Lastly, there will be lots of money from the tourism industry.
These advantages are related to each other as the income created from tourism can be used by the local government to build better facilities, and then the life quality of locals will be improved as a result. To sustain the tourism industry, the people and the government may also pay more attention to the preservation of special cultural events and historic sites.
Cultural tourism may bring a number of disadvantages. There are three main areas of disadvantages of cultural tourism in Machu Picchu. The first disadvantage is different lifestyles of different people visiting, which can lead to clashes of culture. Second area of disadvantage is environmental pollution and land being used to build hotels. The last potential disadvantage is the destruction of historic sites due to high human traffic.
Here’s an example of environmental pollution. Garbage is a big problem for Machu Picchu’s environment. This is caused by insufficient space to cope with the influx of millions of tourists. The effect is garbage being piled up on the streets. As time goes by, the garbage produces indescribable stench and also makes the whole road dirty. If there are many cars on this road, driving also becomes difficult.
In summary, the cultural tourism that is widespread in Machu Picchu has both advantages and disadvantages. In my opinion, in order to develop the tourism industry, the government should make maximum efforts to reduce the negative impact of this type of tourism on this territory.
