The Bombing Of Pearl Harbor by Lauren Tarshis was published in 2011 the story takes place in Pearl City, Hawaii. The characters in the book are Danny, Mom, Aki, Mr. Sudo, and Mrs. Mills. Danny is the main character and Aki is a little boy Danny meets Mr. Sudo Aki’s dad who is a fisherman and a great drawer. Aki is described as a little Japanese boy who is a young child and “ Aki sees the beauty in everything” Aki’s mother said. Mr. Sudo is Aki’s dad and also a great drawer as we will find out later in the writing. Mom has nursing shifts at the hospital and a single mom who takes care of Danny and has to work all day until midnight. Danny is an only child and his dad left him and never came back. Mrs. Mills knows a lot about the world and things that are happening there.
Danny and Aki became friends after the “puppy” incident and Aki insisted that Danny and him got to Aki’s house and have lunch until Danny’s mom came back and then Aki showed Danny his sketchbook with all the plane drawings and names of the planes and then Danny ask Aki if he drew them because he liked them and was interested in them because he also liked planes.

Aki finds the beauty in everything and this is my reason from my reading Aki had found a wild Boar and he thought it was a puppy even though it had sword-like horns and wiry bristles and a pig snout and Aki would not let go of the “puppy” and the mom Boar was going to attack Aki because he wouldn’t let go of the baby Boar or “puppy”. Mrs. Mills had told Danny a lot about Adolf Hitler and how he wanted to take over every country. Mr. Sudo is a fisherman but that is just his job Mr. Sudo is a great drawer as I said a while ago and I know that because when Danny asked Aki if he had drawn the sketches in his sketchbook he had said no his dad[Mr. Sudo] Did Mr. Sudo have been giving Danny drawing lessons? Mrs. Mills lets Danny and Finn[a character that is not mentioned in the book a lot only 3 times] stay in when they don’t want to go outside because it’s either too hot or too cold to go outside so they stay inside and would offer to clean her chalkboard and “she would always happen to have a thermos of lemonade or Hot Chocolate with just enough for them” and would have a big world map and if they asked something about a certain country she would always tell them about it. One morning the skies filled with fighter planes. Danny was in shock and for the first time, he was truly afraid. Aki’s mom had mentioned something about when Danny’s dad was coming back and when she had said that Danny had quickly left her house trying not to cry without waving goodbye before he had left she had said why won’t you stay until your mom gets back and Aki had yelled DANNY DON’T LEAVE COME BACK PLEASE. The theme of this story is no matter how strong you are there is always something that could make you sad or shocked.
I will recommend this to anybody who likes to read historical books that are based on a person's real point of view of the event that the book is about. My idea of this book is very interesting and a great eye-opener of how this historical event happened. The theme of this story is no matter how strong you are there is something that could break you or make you sad. My favorite quote in the book is “Aki finds the beauty in everything” it is my favorite quote because it is hard to find beauty in everything for example when you see a Panda Bear you will see the beauty on the outside but you don’t know what they can really do in reality we think they are harmless but they are harmful so you can easily find the beauty based on looks because we humans base things/people off of looks mostly not by actions all the time now take Harambe as an example he was shot and killed because he was a Gorilla and Gorillas are big and strong so when the little boy fell in the enclosure and Harambe had got the little boy to protect him and the zookeepers had shot and killed him because he was a big Gorilla that had grabbed the little boy to protect him they didn’t notice the beauty of what Harambe had tried to do for the little boy he wanted to keep him from farther danger then he was already in I had seen the beauty of what he was trying to do the little boy the other people didn’t.
