As a globetrotter, I have visited many destinations around the globe, and Japan remains one of my favourite destinations. For my last trip, I used a clever app, Hipmunk, to help me discover new neighbourhoods to explore in Japan, seeing that I had previously visited Japan numerous times. This brought me to the district of Shinsaibashi and the newly-opened Hotel the Flag, which I think absolutely meets the criteria of a good hotel.
Hotel the Flag is well situated between the Shinsaibashi Station and Nagahoribashi Station, a quick 5-minute walk from the hotel. We were also near the world-famous shopping belts like the Shinsaibashi and Amerikamura just a stone's throw away. The hotel lobby is located on the second floor, easily accessible via the set of lifts. The hotel lobby is decorated with rich tones of deep purples and browns, with a fireplace in the middle of the seating area of the lobby. The hotel was spotless and had a mild piped fragrance, and the friendly staff were extremely warm and welcoming.
I had booked a deluxe twin room, largely because of the interesting layout of the room I had seen on their official website, and I was not disappointed! The room was spacious and well-designed to accommodate all the modern and luxurious amenities. I have to make special mention of the Delonghi kettle that was made available for our use in the room, and the customised ceramic cups were proudly emblazoned with 'Hotel the Flag'. In hospitality, it's truly the little touches that take the customer's breath away.
The hotel also has a choice of non-smoking standard double rooms, standard double rooms, deluxe double rooms, wheelchair-accessible rooms and larger and more economical triple-sharing rooms. The entire property is equipped with free WiFi connectivity, which is also a big plus.
The in-house restaurant, Be.zen, is located on the second level, just opposite the check-in counter. The interior design of the restaurant is tastefully done and minimalist in style. Muted earthly tones provide the perfect backdrop to tantalise your tastebuds with the special fusion of traditional Japanese flavours with American and Italian classics. Chef Hayashida has perfected the food art of magically creating delicious dishes that combine lovely colour palettes and seasonal fresh aromas of produce and ingredients. The comprehensive breakfast menu boasts authentic Japanese dishes like chikuzenni stew, tsukemono pickles, boiled eggplant with seasoned rice, amongst many others.
We were privileged with the opportunity to visit numerous culturally-rich attractions during our stay at Hotel the Flag, including the Kamigata Ukiyoe Museum, Hozen-ji Temple, Tsutenkaku Tower, and National Bunraku Theater. We also managed to squeeze in a spot of shopping at the Shinsaibashi Shopping Arcade, Daimaru Shinsaibashi, and Namba CITY shopping malls! As for me, it is very good for the hotel that Family Mart and other convenience stores are just down the street.
To sum it up, Hotel the Flag is a really good hotel, this is truly one of the most memorable stays I've enjoyed as an ardent traveler.
