I have chosen to study this course, Primary Education, as I have always been very interested in pursuing a career in teaching young children, as I believe it is a very rewarding job. I am currently studying SWAP (Scottish Wider Access Programme) Social Sciences at Dundee and Angus College, where I hope to achieve the qualifications to progress to university.

Primary Teaching is of interest to me as I have a wide understanding of subjects, during my time in school I thoroughly enjoyed all the subjects I chose to study, such as Chemistry, Maths, and German. In each lesson, I was always able to follow new topics very well, which I then would progress my understanding to do homework at home set from that day. I am a very creative person, which is why I progressed in Art to a Higher level, I loved expressing myself through drawings and through Photoshop. This is still part of my life, where I like to sit and create pieces of work in my spare time. As I was passionate about all my classes, and hard-working throughout my time at school, I think this will be beneficial for the pupils, as I will be enthusiastic whilst teaching them subjects, I enjoy. In my last year of school, I gained work experience at my local primary school, during my free periods. I was responsible for helping the children in the class individually and in small groups, this included activities such as spelling, reading, mathematics, art, and physical education. I learned how to communicate with children, by developing a knowledge of their capabilities, which then I could create an interesting way of explaining the task, so it was clear to them. During my time doing work experience I was able to interact with children of all ages as after 2 to 3 weeks I would change classes, to experience how different age groups were taught. I also developed good organization and planning skills, as I observed the way the teacher planned the lessons and discussed them with other colleagues to make sure the teaching environment was well structured.

Before I started College, I had a lot of experience in different workplaces, the most common being retail, my current job is working for Tesco. I joined Tesco at the start of Covid-19, where I worked throughout the pandemic as a Personal Shopper. Due to there being a lot of guidelines in place, I have had to work a lot as an individual, making important decisions, which I have had to problem-solve and figure out for myself. I have good communication skills whilst working in a group, as I like to motivate and inspire others to make sure the job is completed on the time scale given. Whilst working here, I have learned a lot about myself, and developed skills such as being punctual and organized, learning to work more independently, and managing my time keeping well

When I started College, I decided to change to part-time hours at work whilst studying full-time at college. I have always been hard-working, and self-motivated and I have learned to balance my time between work and college, as I start work as early as 6 am, this allows me time throughout the rest of the day to focus on college and start or complete any work I must finish, allowing me to produce the highest standard of work. For exams, I always study and prepare myself thoroughly to get the best results, as well as spending a lot of time revising for assessments, and I always set time aside to read over any feedback from my lecturers, as I take constructive criticism on board very well, and not in a negative way, as this always helps me do better for next time.

All the skills I have gained through work experience, employment, and my time in education reflect how passionate I am to be becoming a primary teacher after university. I wish to progress these skills and my enthusiasm for learning and teaching to university, where I can work alongside others passionate about the same career. I am dedicated to making a difference in the future of education for the younger generation.
