As technology keeps improving and becomes more affordable, there are always innovations that can help people to ease their life. One of those innovations can be virtual reality (VR). Studies show that it has a promising future in the educational system, or even treating children's aggression problems. This essay examines the benefits of virtual reality and discusses some of its drawbacks.
In their article 'The Benefits of Virtual Reality in Education: A Comparison Study' (2015), Mustafa Hussein and Carl Natterdal state that the use of virtual reality technology can be beneficial in an educational application, especially in subjects that need an interactive environment and loads of practice. Studies show that students choose virtual reality as a considerably more effective platform for learning because it allows experience learning in a completely new way and makes the learning process more compelling. Virtual reality can be especially useful in subjects that require visualization, for instance, architectural creations can come to virtual life without using unnecessary materials. This technology can also be beneficial in subjects involving risk like healthcare because it requires a substantial amount of practice in surgeries. As virtual reality technology gets cost-effective, it will probably become a frequent tool in education soon.
The authors Alsem et al. of the article 'Using Virtual Reality to Treat Aggressive Behavior Problems in Children: A Feasibility Study' (2021) claim that interactive virtual reality can be a solution to treating children with aggressive behavior problems. The current treatment is cognitive behavioral therapies (CBTs), but they do not offer the necessary effects. To improve this method, researchers developed a new cognitive behavior therapy with involved interactive virtual reality. The study shows that it can decrease children's aggressive behavior with a satisfying process for the kids. Youngsters often are not motivated and try to resist the treatment of their problems, but if aggressive behavior problems are not treated at low age, it may affect them in later life. Authors suggest that virtual reality can be an answer to children's psychological problems treatment because they love digital innovations. All in all, this research article shows that virtual reality can be implemented in children's aggression treatment.
Even though virtual reality can seem to have many benefits, nothing is perfect. Virtual reality technology is highly addictive, using virtual reality and being isolated in a different world for a long time can have some negative effects on communication, the virtual world can even become more pleasant. Although there are countless benefits of virtual reality, there also are quite a few downsides, but people should not be afraid of it because the world is evolving and there are always new problems that come up, but everyone adjusts and go on.
To summarize, virtual reality is becoming more and more popular, it is still developing and improving, so no one knows its full potential, but as long as people are aware of the drawbacks and dangers that this technology can cause, it can benefit education, healthcare, and other fields.
